Further linking and upgradation of transportation in Aurangabad, the rural works department is to undertake a gigantic infrastructure project. As part of its efforts to develop the region’s road and bridge network, more than 500 new rural roads and over 35 bridges are to be constructed this year. The idea is to provide smoother, safer, and easier roads for people living in remote areas through various government schemes.
Key Initiatives for Rural Development
There are a few rural development initiatives primarily covered under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana. According to Superintendent Engineer Mohammad Arshad, 439 km of new roads are going to be built in different constituencies of Aurangabad. New roads are to be built in the following constituencies:
Rafiganj : 80
Nabinagar : 123
Obra : 43
Goh : 80
Aurangabad : 62
Kutumba : 44 roads
These roads will help connect the rural masses to better services, markets, and government facilities. Once construction begins, these projects will definitely enhance the daily lives of rural people by providing easier travel options and saving time.
Technology-Driven Survey for Rural Connectivity
To make sure that even the smallest hamlets and settlements are covered by this initiative, a detailed survey is being done through a mobile app. This technology-driven approach is being used to find and connect even the most far-flung villages on paved roads. A detailed project report for the proposed roads is to be submitted by February 28, so that the tenders will likely be completed in the current fiscal year’s ending. The work will start immediately thereafter.
Beside this, Mukhyamantri Gram Setu Yojana will cater to the need of bridges within the district. The total of 152 bridges and culverts to be constructed in the district with already identified 12 bridges. DPR for all of these is under preparation. The bridges will bring the real connectivity to the cut-off villages with shorter distances for journeys towards block or district headquarters that eventually will increase overall access to the region.
Road Connectivity Holes in Villages
At present, the city of Aurangabad is at a situation wherein 653 hamlets are devoid of road connectivity. To bridge this gap, the rural works department has undertaken mobile application-based survey to pinpoint hamlets with utmost priority. With this effort, it will submit the DPRs of 104 pathways by the end of January. The connecting pathways will help people in the disconnected areas to the main network.
Revamping Old Infrastructure: The Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Unnayan Yojana
The reconstruction of some old infrastructures has its footing under Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Unnayan Yojana in the efforts of government. In addition to new constructions and rehabilitation projects of roads and bridges, the government has also stressed rebuilding roads that are more than five years old, so that they become durable and safe.
There is a proposal to reconstruct 383 roads in the Aurangabad division, and the DPRs of 303 roads have already been submitted. There are proposals of 239 rural road projects in the Daudnagar division, with 185 DPRs already sent. The rest of the proposals will be presented by the end of January. This will enable older roads to be upgraded with the increasing rural transportation demands.
Widening of roads for smooth traffic flow
Widening connecting roads to highways running at the national and state level to 5 meters in width will also be done to ensure free flow along roads. The new widths of connecting roads to highways will comfortably absorb increased volumes of traffic and minimize congestion, ensuring free flow of vehicles. From this, improved roads will particularly provide much-needed benefits of connectivity and easy movement for both rural and urban residents.
Conclusion
Infrastructure development in Aurangabad is surely going to revolutionize rural connectivity. With over 500 new rural roads and 35 bridges proposed, the region will see a radical improvement in access, safety, and transportation. The integration of technology through mobile surveys, the building of new roads, and reconstruction of old roads under government schemes will make sure that Aurangabad becomes a model for rural development in the next years. Therefore, this is one initiative, bringing economic as well as social benefits to the rural communities, finally making the quality of life improved for the dwellers.
