The much-needed upgradation to the country’s transport infrastructure would come in the form of the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB Rapid Rail Corridor. This is all set to be undertaken soon, though before that it would make it easy to reach Rajasthan from Delhi, thus setting the stage for faster and more efficient regional connectivity. Once revealed, the format of the scheme will be kicked out, and an early budget date of February 2025 might bring the much-coveted rail corridor closer to a reality for this fast-speed rail.
What is Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB Rapid Rail Corridor?
The rapid rail corridor is the Delhi-Gurgaon-Shahjahanpur corridor passing through all of the major places in Manesar, Bilaspur, Dharuhera, Rewari, and Neemrana connecting Delhi and Gurgaon with Shahjahanpur. It is expected that this corridor is about 100 km long and it will have development on the way to 22 stations.
It will take the estimated project cost of Rs 22,000 crore according to the estimates given by Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh. This corridor would help greatly develop regional public transport and ease up travel time to Rajasthan from Delhi.
Advantages of Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB Corridor
The rapid rail corridor for Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB is created for overcoming many types of transportation-related problems of this region. Let’s know how it is going to be helpful in that respect:
Improved Connectivity: The corridor will develop communication seamlessly between Delhi, Gurgaon, and Rajasthan for commuters to travel and tourists to roam.
Reduced Travel Time: While cutting the travel time between key locations, this project will increase economic activity and mobility.
Enhanced Regional Development: This would be a critical infrastructure project that would increase growth areas along its routes, access better markets, jobs, and services.
Project Updates and Design Changes
It was originally conceived that the project of rapid rail would end at Dharuhera. However, considering public feedback, Rao Inderjit Singh had suggested to extend the first phase of the corridor up to Shahjahanpur for which Manohar Lal Khattar had already agreed. Further, it will prove to be more effective in establishing the impact of the corridor since it will work as a perfect answer to regional transport needs.
The new corridor will pass on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway, from Sarhaul Border going towards Manesar passing through all the major areas like Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk, and Rajiv Chowk. The project is underground from Delhi to Hero Honda Chowk in Gurgaon and then continues elevated on pillars till Shahjahanpur.
Roadblock to Development
Despite the strong momentum, a lot of work has gone into the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB rapid rail corridor. Approval from the Union Cabinet has always been one major hurdle. On the other hand, corridors such as the Delhi-Meerut route have proceeded rather smoothly. It is only with the Haryana-Rajasthan link that problems arose in terms of land acquisition and funds.
The Delhi-Meerut corridor, under the same umbrella program, has already begun in 2019 and is expected to be completed this year. The project was given Rs 30,000 crore as funding and has been sourced from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The Delhi-Meerut corridor was nearly on track despite the pandemic’s disruption.
In comparison, the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB corridor has seen some hiccups because of the disagreement on funding model and route approvals. The Haryana government has aired its complaint over the failure of Delhi to provide funds within timely limits, which has retarded the project’s progress.
What’s Next for the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB Corridor?
As the construction of the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB rapid rail corridor moves forward, several key factors will need to be addressed:
The project will be brought to its target only if government approvals are met.
The availability of funds and land is vital for the time-bound execution.
Coordination between states- Delhi and Haryana will play a significant role in the completion of this corridor.
Conclusion: It is a giant leap towards better connectivity
This rapid rail corridor on the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB route will altogether transform transportation in the region and will provide millions of commuters with an option to travel fast and efficiently. With a project cost of around Rs 22,000 crore, the initiative promises long-term economic benefits for connectivity between Delhi, Gurgaon, and Rajasthan.
Despite a couple of minor problems that have sprung up, with delays in finance and approvals to start with, the rapid rail corridor has lots of potential that could transform public transport in many regions. From improving travel time, it will make way for increased regional development through its completion into one of India’s infrastructural growth pillars.
