A major leap in the direction of developing infrastructure in Ghaziabad has been taken by the District Magistrate as he has sanctioned proposals of Rs 58.5 crore for 269 important construction works. The sanctioning was done at a meeting with the District Urban Development Authority (DUDA) on Thursday and it is one step forward towards solving many of the urban needs in the district. The projects will focus on improving essential services, like drinking water, waste collection, road-building among many others, especially for disadvantaged communities.
Fund Allocation: What Budget Approval Tells Us
Total slum development projects under way involving total funds of Rs 58.5 crore; as of now, the sanctioned works are highest, ie 251 projects under CM Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Slum Development Programme involving fund sanctioned worth Rs 55.8 crore, focusing mainly on infrastructure development of such areas across this district while keeping in view mainly provisioning them to direct influence of the basic living aspects in life for their denizens.
The SCSP welfare scheme sanctioned 18 projects worth Rs 2.8 crore. These would, in turn, depict the intentions of the government to develop infrastructure for the deprived section and therefore lead to balanced development in Ghaziabad.
Focus areas of the infrastructural projects
The following sanctioned projects would be addressing the most basic urban requirements in Ghaziabad. Some of the focus areas are as follows:
Drinking Water Supply – Improving access to fresh drinking water in most areas, thus making healthy well-being and hygiene possible at the population level.
Drain Construction: Construction of new drains and upgradation of existing lines to ensure no water logging is done during monsoon time flow, thus being health-safe alongside infrastructure.
Solid Waste Management: Strengthening waste collection and disposal systems to keep the urban space clean and sanitary as well as enhance public health outcomes
Roads and Street Lighting: Development of roads and installation of street lights will make transportation and public spaces safer and more efficient.
Interlocking Tile Work: Interlocking tiles on roads and pedestrian pathways for durability and aesthetics in urban areas.
Specific Areas for Immediate Development
According to Sanjay Pateria, Executive Officer of DUDA, these proposals are cross-checked by NOCs from the local bodies as they are proposed by public representatives. He further said that it is necessary for improving the immediate infrastructural needs in Ghaziabad, mainly in slums and urban localities.
Rapid Action on Integrated Housing and Slum Development
Most of the approved projects include development under the IHSDP, which includes urban areas like Sudamapuri, Arthala, and Faridnagar. DM Indra Vikram Singh has asked the DUDA officials to complete these works within the next 10 days. Once completed, this infrastructure will be handed over to the municipal corporation so that they can continue and maintain it for the longer term and sustainable development in the urban areas.
It is undertaking rapid action in its critical areas so that the people of the place would be seen with improved infrastructure with lesser delay. It is trying to take a big stride toward improving the lives of city dwellers in the case of Ghaziabad town, especially in deprived places.

All through the ongoing implementation of the same, there will be hope for roads, drainage and water supply, and sanitation and environmental safety.
