The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) proposes to construct three new bridges, which form part of the road decongestion plan that will be taken up in order to improve the traffic movement pattern in the city. These newly constructed bridges will help ease traffic jams from key places at Mohali, along with improved connectivity, and ensure easy transit for citizens as well as tourists by creating a smoother movement on the road

Key Bridges Planned for Construction

As per reports, GMADA will begin the construction of three bridges it plans to build alongside completing the development process of infrastructure. The three bridges will handle the current traffic of crowded areas. Below is a detailed look at the three bridges planned:

Balongi Bridge: This bridge would run parallel to the already existing Patiali-ki-Rao bridge. So, it is going to help in having more route to overcome the increased need of traffic within this region.

N-Choe Bridges: In the class of bridges number two and three will appear at N-Choe, near to NIPER and the one that approaches Sector 68 from PCA Mohali. This way this will be able to reduce congestions at these places and improve flowability of roads.

Total Investment and Timeline

The total estimated cost for the construction of all three bridges is Rs 17 crore. Naveen Kamboj, the SE at GMADA, added that the process will be in phases. The first one, the Balongi bridge, is supposed to start by February 2025. It is estimated that this bridge would cost around Rs 9 crore,”.

These other two bridges would be built to solve the problem on N-Choe as one package. In building the above bridges, its integration would harmonize with other general objectives the city has of reducing congestion through effective traffic management.

Improvement in connectivity and eradication of traffic bottlenecks.

One of the prime reasons that GMADA expects to overcome through these new bridges includes the current bottleneck at critical intersections, especially where dual carriageways narrow down into lanes. The entry to the bridge from PCA Stadium forms a T-point at the NIPER road leading to high traffic congestion as the vehicles need to make a right turn to reach the Sector 68 traffic signal.

This is to overcome this problem so that the GMADA would construct one more bridge with proper alignment which is the Approach road from the PCA stadium. After converting the cross T-point for crossing traffic by using the PC Ashtari from PCA to a straight point so that Traffic is going further ahead for Sector-68 and Road coming towards AirPort. Thus the traffic will pass from the side of NIPER as they will make easy crossing while reaching to this cross Kumbran.

Importance of Dual Carriageway Projects

The NIPER-Kumbran road, which is already under construction as a dual carriageway, will also benefit from the new bridges. The bridges are part of a larger project intended to streamline traffic flow in the area. Traffic will not be confined by narrow or converging lanes, and therefore, it will reduce congestion, making travel easier and faster.

Traffic Decongestion and Future Prospects

The new bridges would ease traffic hugely, especially along roads where erstwhile there existed severe bottlenecks due to high vehicle density. Since there is smooth flow of traffic at these routes, GMADA goes a long way in the enhancing of infrastructure inside Mohali. The expected lessening of jams and better time travel should ensure such projects contribute to enhanced road safety for commuters.

These Balongi and N-Choe bridges are just part of a larger initiative undertaken by GMADA to enhance the transport network in the city of Mohali, connecting different sectors of the city and ultimately bringing down the time required to travel. As it comes together over the years, the bridges will, beyond direct benefits, establish a basis for a well-connected and efficient Mohali to be in years to come.

Conclusion

GMADA’s plan to construct three new bridges in Mohali is a vital step towards easing the city’s traffic congestion. The projects enhance connectivity, reduce bottlenecks, and make travel through major areas much smoother. With the new bridges under construction, the residents of Mohali and the commuters also expect a far better transportation network- efficient and dependable.
