The state of Andhra Pradesh took one step closer towards the development of a capital city vibrant and modern, with the sanctioning of projects that would cost an estimated Rs 8,821 crores. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu-led development authority, CRDA cleared these developments to develop more space in the expanded area of Amaravati. As many funds will be used to construct new roads and build up and expand key urban facilities for fast growth of the city.
Major Projects of Amaravati Development
CRDA meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Naidu, had already earmarked funds for various projects to be undertaken for developing Amaravati as a world-class capital. Several major allocations were pointed out by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister P. Narayana in the approved Rs 8,821 crore package.
Road Construction:
There will be a big share of the budget, amounting to Rs 3,807 crores, going into road construction as land has been pooled in some places.
Trunk road laying will also be included in the budget, with a mind-boggling Rs 4,521 crores to be spent. This would join different parts of the city together and make transportation more feasible.
Housing and Judicial Infrastructure:
The package also includes developing Rs 492 crore on constructing bungalows for ministers and judges of the High Court. These developments will enhance the functions of the state government in addition to adding to the infrastructure appeal of the city.
Total Approved Investment for Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh
The total amount now approved under different works for Amaravati shows the efforts that CRDA is making in terms of pushing forward construction here. The latest meeting now gave Rs 8,821 crore approval, thus adding the total to the immense sum of Rs 20,292.46 crore approval for infrastructure works in Amaravati.
Layouts and Road Development: Layouts for a 236 km stretch covering villages like Nelapadu, Rayapudi, Ananthavaram, and Dondapadu have been cleared. In addition, approval for 97.5 km of trunk roads will improve connectivity across the region.
Past Investment and Future Plans: In between 2014 and 2019, tenders worth Rs 41,000 crore have been floated for different works. Although during the period, only Rs 5,000 crore worth of works were completed, CRDA is quite serious to complete all the projects within the deadline.
Construction Cost Rise Hobbles Amaravati Development
Even with all this progress, development in Amaravati was affected by rising construction costs. “Delay in taking up works after 2019 is the reason for the rise in cost. With the escalation in building cost between 35 to 55 per cent, the total hike in the project cost touched 25 to 28 per cent”, said Minister P. Narayana.
Had the construction been smooth between 2019 and 2024, these cost increases would have been avoided. But the city growth will not be put to a stop, and CRDA is eager to complete the remaining projects with a greater burden of cost.
Tender Process and Challenges Ahead
The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is ready to take all the stages of further development forward. He confirmed that tenders would be called by 15th December for works to be undertaken in days to come and that would conclude by the end of the month. This would ensure a continuous development without any more delay.
However, there are challenges in the way. Because of legal cases with the original designers from Singapore, the state government will have to take permission from the Chief Minister before re-engaging them. This legal challenge might delay the progress, but the government is optimistic about overcoming those challenges.
Conclusion: A Step Forward for Amaravati’s Future
The approval of Rs 8,821 crore for the development of Amaravati as a capital city is an important step in the direction of Andhra Pradesh building a modern, efficient capital. As the construction work starts gathering momentum, the city will soon turn into an economic growth and urban development hub. Despite the hurdles that cost rise and legal challenges have placed on its way, the state government is keen to drive on to make Amaravati a world-class capital. Further projects are still being implemented, and therefore Amaravati will be developed in the coming years in Andhra Pradesh.
