Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath headed the presentation of Uttar Pradesh’s second supplementary budget this year, focusing on areas to be fortified. Tallying Rs 17,865.72 crore, the budget will increase power sector and infrastructure within the state. Overview of the Rs 17,865 Crore Supplementary Budget
The Yogi Adityanath government presented the second supplementary budget of this fiscal year on December 17, a very big step towards upgrading the infrastructure and energy sectors in Uttar Pradesh. The new budget comes after an earlier supplementary budget of Rs 12,209 crore submitted in July 2024, with this one being an extension of the main budget of more than Rs 7.36 lakh crore.
This supplementary budget is about 2.42 per cent of the original and comprises sustaining as well as accelerating in important areas. Presenting the budget, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said in a public address in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath that the budget has been spoken to his commitment and ability towards rise in the state and Constitutional Right to alter and present it from necessity.
Key Allocations in Supplementary Budget
The supplementary budget shows major allocations in a series of sectors with much more focus on power and infrastructures. Here’s the breakdown of some major allocations;
Energy Sector: In the energy department, this budget has allotted as high as Rs 8,587 crore to fortify power supply in the state, make it sustainable, and meet demand due to growth.
Finance Department: Allocation of Rs 2,438 crore to the finance department will be done for the purposes of strengthening management in matters of finance and to promote smooth execution of financial services.
Family Welfare: It is proposed to allocate to the family welfare department to be spent on health and welfare activities to the amount of Rs 1,592 crore.
Animal Husbandry: For betterment and management of animals and to increase the economies at rural places, Rs 1,001 crore is alloted for the department.
Public Works Department (PWD): An amount of Rs 805 crores is distributed for constructing and maintaining key infrastructures for PWD.
Education: An amount of Rs 515 crore has been given to primary education to upgrade the schools everywhere, so as to have an access towards high quality education.
Information Department: Rs 505 crores for the information department to meet more communication projects to popularise and engage the public.
Panchayati Raj: The Panchayati Raj department gets allocated Rs 454 crore towards supporting the decentralization policies and rural governance.
Medical Education and Training: With Rs 354 crore on medical education, it enhances training of health and healthcare facilities.
Apart from these grants, the supplementary budget comes with new proposals worth Rs 790 crore, which are to meet emerging needs of expenditure and ensure timely implementation of new projects.
The Central share of Rs 422.56 crore under various central schemes besides provision for reimbursement of Rs 30.48 crore from the contingency fund.
Approval and Future Steps
The supplementary budget, which increased the allocations for some development activities in the state, was passed unopposed in the state cabinet that met under the chairmanship of CM Yogi Adityanath. The step was taken in advance of the House session to facilitate fast legislative sanction of the budget. This approval has marked an important step toward the attainment of developmental goals for the state.
